Künker sale 405, lot 3255

This specimen was lot 3255 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €1,900 (about US$2,493 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS FRANZ I., 1745-1765. Kurant- und Scheidemünzen aus der Zeit des Kaisers Franz I. vor der österreichisch-bayerischen Münzkonvention vom 21. September 1753. ½ Reichstaler o. J. (1745-1765), mit Titel von Franz I. Münzmeister Johann Christoph Busch. Stempelschneider der Vorderseite Christoph Daniel Oexlein, der Rückseite Johann Leonhard Oexlein. Mit Stadtschlüsseln. Von größter Seltenheit. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (city of Regensburg, undated half thaler struck in the name of Francis I before the Austro-Bavarian monetary convention of September 1753, with city keys. Extremely rare, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This half thaler is attributed in the SCWC to 1742, which seems unlikely, as Regensburg was then striking coins for Francis's rival, Charles VII of Bavaria.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 14,54 g.

Catalog reference: KM 266, Beckenbauer 6250; Slg. Bach (Auktion Künker 238) -.
