This second specimen was lot 71501 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $630. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1847-Pi AM. San Luis Potosí Mint. NGC MS-62. Slightly matte and highly argent, this elegant specimen dazzles and stands as a great example of the type from a lesser-seen mint. Sharp and rather vibrant." This specimen was struck at the San Luis Potosí mint in 1847. This mint opened in 1827 and operated until 1893 and struck silver and copper denominations but never gold. This date is fairly common in circulated condition. Assayer AM is recorded for 1843-49.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, .903 fine silver, .784 troy oz ASW.
