Sincona sale 98, lot 4678

This specimen was lot 4678 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 400 CHF (about US$580 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Stadt und Kanton, Halbdukat 1741, Zürich. Selten. Vorzüglich. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand. (Switzerland, city and canton of Zürich, half ducat of 1741, Zürich mint. Rare, Extremely Fine, Flan flaw on edge.)"

This scarce type was struck 1718-36, 1739-45, 1748, 1751-53, 1756-61 and 1767 along with quarter (Fr-488a), single (Fr-486a) and double ducats (Fr-485a). In 1798, the canton of Zürich was forcibly incorporated into the Helvetic Republic.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: 1.75 g, 0.986 fine gold, 22 mm diameter, this specimen 1.75 g.
