Sincona sale 80, lot 5327

This specimen was lot 5327 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$ including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND | Zurich | Stadt und Kanton, Halbdukat 1739, Zürich. Rare. Good very fine. Minor scratches." This scarce type was struck 1718-67 along with double (Fr-485a), quarter (Fr-488a) and single ducats (Fr-486a). In 1798, the canton of Zürich was forcibly incorporated into the Helvetic Republic.
