Sincona sale 95, lot 4681

This specimen was lot 4681 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 18,000 CHF (about US$24,948 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Stadt und Kanton, Doppeldukat 1739, Zürich. Sehr seltener Jahrgang. Vorzüglich-FDC. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. Exemplar der Auktion SINCONA 57, Zürich, Mai 2019, Los 4630. (Switzerland, canton of Zürich, double ducat of 1739, Zürich mint. Very rare date, About Uncirculated, Magnificent condition.)"

This type was struck 1718-36, 1739-45, 1748, 1751-53, 1756-61 and 1767 along with quarter ducats (Fr-488a), half ducats (Fr-487a) and single ducats (Fr-486a) but, unlike those, the double ducats are all rare.
