Sincona sale 87, lot 4188

This specimen was lot 4188 in Sincona sale 87 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$606 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Vierteldukat 1736 (über 28), Zürich. Selten. Fast vorzüglich. (Switzerland, canton of Zurich, quarter ducat of 1736, Zurich mint, 1736/28 overdate. Rare, About extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1718-45, 1748-53, 1756-61 and 1767. It is likely the most common gold coin from this canton in the eighteenth century.

Specification: 0.875 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 0.86 g.
