Sincona sale 68, lot 5496

This specimen was lot 5496 in Sincona sale 68 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 275 CHF (about US$362 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Zurich | Stadt und Kanton, Vierteldukat 1739, Zürich. Gutes vorzüglich. Kleiner Schrötlingsriss. Leicht gewellt. (city and canton of Zürich, quarter ducat of 1739, Zurich mint. Good extremely fine, Minor flan crack, Slightly wavy flan.)"

This type was struck fairly steadily 1718-67 yet remains expensive altho this specimen did not realize the catalog value.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.88 g, 0.986 fine gold; this specimen 0.92 g.
