Sincona sale 80, lot 5329

This specimen was lot 5329 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$ including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND | Zurich | Stadt und Kanton, Halbdukat 1743, Zürich. Stempel in der Jahreszahl aus 1741 geändert. Rare. Very fine-extremely fine. Slightly wavy flan." This scarce type was struck 1718-67 along with double (Fr-485a), quarter (Fr-488a) and single ducats (Fr-486a). This 1743/1 overdate is not listed in the SCWC. In 1798, the canton of Zürich was forcibly incorporated into the Helvetic Republic.
