from Stack's Bowers November 2015 sale, lot 39430
Mexico SB1115-39430r.jpg

This specimen was lot 39430 in Stack's Bowers Winter sale (Baltimore, November 2015), where it sold for $411.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1859/7-GoPF. NGC MS-63. The finest graded by either NGC or PCGS. This would be a great coin even in the absence of the overdate. With the overdate, it is downright RARE. Well struck with an overdate that jumps out at the viewer without magnification. A highly desirable coin on multiple levels, and one that should produce spirited bidding." The Guanajuato mint issued this type 1825-97 and most dates after 1829 are readily available. Overdates 1859/8 and 1859/7 are listed and given a slight premium.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, .903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM-377.8; DP-Go43.
