Heritage sale 3073, lot 31598

This specimen was lot 31598 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic gold 20 Pesos 1898 Mo-M MS63 NGC, Mexico City mint. Strong, lustrous prooflike fields with a rich honey-gold tone." This specimen is one of a series struck at the Mexico City mint 1870-1905. Although production was substantial, many dates are rare. Mintage figures are not a reliable indicator of rarity for this type due to the accidents of hoarding; many low mintage issues are readily available while other high mintage issues are very rare.
