This specimen was lot 31222 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $2,232.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic gold 20 Pesos 1899 Mo-M MS62 NGC, Mexico City mint. A brilliant Uncirculated selection displaying the expected handling marks for the designation, glowing with a tremendous amount of coppery-hued luster that shines upon rotation. Boldly rendered and attractive from all angles, absolutely coveted when offered at the Mint State level." This type was struck at Mexico City 1870-1905. The type is also recorded from Culiacan, Durango, Guanajuato, Alamos, Chihuahua, Hermosillo, Oaxaca and Zacatecas but Mexico City is by far the most prolific issuer. The 1899-MoM is considered a common date. Mintage figures are not a reliable indicator of rarity for this type due to the accidents of hoarding; many low mintage issues are readily available while other high mintage issues are very rare.
