The first specimen was lot 71609 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $65. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 5 Centavos, 1899-Go R. Guanajuato Mint. PCGS MS-64. Surpassed in the PCGS census by a single specimen, this elegant near-Gem dazzles with a tremendous argent nature and offers a hint of burnished toning near a portion of the peripheries." Shown is an 1899-GoR five centavos, of a type struck at the Guanajuato mint 1898-1900. The Guanajuato mint was closed in 1900. This issue is one of the plentiful dates, even in nice condition. Other mints include Culiacan, Zacatecas and Mexico City.

Recorded mintage: 260,000.
