This specimen was lot 72377 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $180. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Peso, 1899-Cn AM. Culiacan Mint. PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield. Steely gray with hints of amber throughout, this elegant, original example offers some alluring luster radiating underneath." This type was struck at Culiacan 1898-1905 and assayers JQ and AM are recorded for the year.

Recorded mintage: 1,722,000 including assayer JQ.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
