This specimen was lot 1378 in Stack's "Vermuele, Ward & Mexico Maxico" sale (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $1,955. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Republic. 20 Pesos, 1899 Cn M. Culiacan. Bold eagle facing r. with snake in beak. Rv. Cap and Rays above scales of Justice, dagger, and scroll of laws. Lustrous and well struck for this issue, the surfaces are attractive and retain a good portion of original lustre. Minute planchet streak on the obverse. Choice About Uncirculated." The Culiacan mint struck this type 1870-1905 and is third behind Mexico City and Guanajuato in availability.
