CNG Lissner sale, lot 1935

This specimen was lot 1935 in Classical Numismatic Group's auction of the Richard Lissner collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $7,562.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO, Segunda República. 1867-1905. AV 20 Pesos. Guanajuato mint. Rosendo Sandoval, assayer. Dated 1899 Go R. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 64. Choice lustrous brilliant uncirculated. A relatively small mintage of 9,757. Purchased from Louis Collins, June 1970." This type was struck at Guanajuato 1870-1900 and is a fairly available mint and date, tho this type was not hoarded. This specimen sold for six times the catalog value.

Specification: 33.84 g, 0.875 fine gold, .952 troy oz AGW, this specimen Ø33 mm, 33.89 g, 6h axis.
