This specimen was lot 71100 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 5 Centavos, 1899-Cn M. Culiacan Mint. NGC MS-64. Finest of only two graded by NGC, other is AU Details. Scarce assayer. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." The Culiacan mint struck this five centavos with this design 1898-1905. It is a redesign of the five centavos piece struck 1869-97; only the eagle was changed. All dates are common. The bronze one centavo and silver ten and twenty centavos were similarly modified. The eight reales was dropped in favor of a silver peso with this eagle. The regime began closing the branch mints in 1893 and by 1899, only Guanajuato, Culiacan and Zacatecas were left.

Recorded mintage: 111,000, including assayer Q.

Specification: 1.35 g, 0.903 fine silver, 14 mm diameter, reeded edge.
