Mexico 1900-Go R 5 centavos

Stack's Bowers October 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71610

The first specimen was lot 71610 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $240. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 5 Centavos, 1900-Go R. Guanajuato Mint. PCGS MS-66. The finer of just two examples seen at PCGS, this superb Gem presents exquisite surfaces with a cartwheel luster and subtle toning. A definite stunner that will undoubtedly dazzle." Shown is an 1900-GoR five centavos, of a type struck at the Guanajuato mint 1898-1900. The Guanajuato mint was closed in 1900. This issue is one of the plentiful dates, even in nice condition. Other mints include Culiacan, Zacatecas and Mexico City.

Recorded mintage: 200,000.
