Mexico 1902-Mo M 5 centavos
This specimen was lot 70252 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2020), where it sold for $60. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 5 Centavos, 1902-Mo M. Mexico City Mint. NGC MS-64. Presenting a subtle champagne rose tone throughout, this alluring near Gem offers underlying luster and brilliance shimmering from beneath." Shown is an 1902-MoM five centavos, of a type struck at the Mexico City mint 1898-1905. This issue is common, even in nice condition. An overdate, 1902/1, is noted. It features the redesigned eagle introduced on all the silver denominations in 1898. Other mints include Culiacan, Guanajuato and Zacatecas; the other branch mints having closed.
