This coin was one of a type struck 1898-1905 at four mints, Zacatecas (shown here), Mexico City, Guanajuato and Culiacan. This "liberty cap" peso replaced the old "cap and ray" eight reales, which design was regarded as quaint and outdated. The 1902-ZsFZ is the most common date for Zacatecas.

Recorded mintage: 7,134,000.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
