Mexico 1900-Cn Q 20 pesos
This specimen was lot 21217 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $1,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 20 Pesos, 1900-CnQ. PCGS AU-58 Secure Holder. Mintage of 1,558 with few others approaching the degree of preservation seen here. Medium clear orange toning, sharply struck and highly reflective." This type was struck at Culiacan 1870-1905. The type is also recorded from Mexico City, Durango, Guanajuato, Alamos, Chihuahua, Hermosillo, Oaxaca and Zacatecas but Mexico City is by far the most prolific issuer. The 1900-Cn Q is considered a common date. Mintage figures are not a reliable indicator of rarity for this type due to the accidents of hoarding; many low mintage issues are readily available while other high mintage issues are very rare.
Recorded mintage: 1,558.
Specification: 33.84 g, 0.875 fine gold, .951 troy oz AGW.
