Ponterio sale 159, lot 8128

This type was struck at Durango 1832-69, with assayer CP listed for 1853-62 and 1869. This specimen was lot 8128 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $115. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Durango. 1/2 Real, 1856/5-DoCP. RARE date, rough surfaces. VERY GOOD-FINE." The SCWC does not list this as a particularly rare date but the editors don't know everything. Only the overdate is recorded. This is among the last issues with the French style eagle.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.69 g, 0.903 fine silver, .049 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 370.3.
