The first specimen was lot 23324 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Escudo, 1849-GoPF. Guanajuato Mint. PCGS MS-61 Secure Holder. Well detailed with choice surfaces for the grade and attractive orange tone over both sides. Scarce date and the sole certified example at PCGS. Cataloged as a better date in the Standard Catalog of World Coins with a value in MS60 of $775." The Guanajuato mint struck half escudos 1845, 1849-63 and is generally considered a slightly scarce mint.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.69 g, 0.875 fine gold, .049 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-115; KM-378.4.
