This specimen is a common date of a series struck 1869-90 at the Mexico City mint. The overdate, 1876/5, is recorded as being more common than the regular date. This twenty-five centavos piece replaced the two reales struck since colonial times. It, in turn, was replaced by a smaller twenty centavos piece in 1898. The first specimen was lot 9109 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $345. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Mexico City. 25 Centavos, 1876-MoB. Light attractive toning, sharply struck. BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED."

Specification: 6.77 g, .903 fine silver, .196 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Catalog reference: KM 406.7.
