Wurttemberg 1799 6 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 3505 in Künker sale 440 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €440 (about US$605 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH Friedrich II. (I.), 1797-1806-1816. 6 Kreuzer 1799, Stuttgart. R Fast vorzüglich. Erworben im März 1996 aus dem Lager der Kreissparkasse Esslingen. (duchy of Württemberg, Frederick II, 1797-1816, six kreuzer of 1799, Stuttgart mint. Rare, about extremely fine.)"
This scarce type was struck 1799 only. One convention thaler was 120 kreuzer. Frederick's support of Napoleon was rewarded with promotion from duke to king in 1806, along with a substantial addition of territory as mediatization swept away the free cities and ecclesiastical states.
Recorded mintage: 18,330.
Specification: 2.70 g, 0.333 fine silver, this specimen 2,52 g.
