Künker Auction 440, lot 3511

This specimen was lot 3511 in Künker sale 440 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €500 (about US$688 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH Friedrich II. (I.), 1797-1806-1816. Kreuzer 1798, Stuttgart. Mit Monogramm F II ., die Rückseite mit der Jahreszahl unter zwei gekreuzten Lorbeerzweigen. Kl. Schrötlingsfehler, fast Stempelglanz. Exemplar der Slg. Schlossberger, Auktion Gerhard Hirsch Nachf. 181, München 1994, Nr. 2360. (duchy of Württemberg, Frederick II, 1797-1816, kreuzer of 1798, Stuttgart mint. Obverse with monogram "F II ." and the reverse with the date over two crossed laurel branches. Minor planchet defects, about uncirculated.)"

This scarce type was struck 1798 only. One convention thaler was 120 kreuzer. Frederick's support of Napoleon was rewarded with promotion from duke to king in 1806, along with a substantial addition of territory as mediatization swept away the free cities and ecclesiastical states.
