Wurttemberg 1798 3 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 3506 in Künker sale 440 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €300 (about US$413 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH Friedrich II. (I.), 1797-1806-1816. 3 Kreuzer 1798, Stuttgart. Mit Monogramm F II . und die Wertzahl 3 in oben eckiger Einfassung, die Rückseite mit spatenblattförmigem Schild. R Winz. Schrötlingsfehler, fast vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 80, Osnabrück 2003, Nr. 2789. (duchy of Württemberg, Frederick II, 1797-1816, three kreuzer of 1798, Stuttgart mint. Obverse with monogram "F II ." and value in escutcheon; reverse with pointed shield. Rare, minor planchet defects, about extremely fine.)"
This scarce type was struck 1798 only. One convention thaler was 120 kreuzer. Frederick's support of Napoleon was rewarded with promotion from duke to king in 1806, along with a substantial addition of territory as mediatization swept away the free cities and ecclesiastical states.
