Künker Auction 440, lot 3508

This specimen was lot 3508 in Künker sale 440 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €400 (about US$550 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH Friedrich II. (I.), 1797-1806-1816. 3 Kreuzer 1800. Mit Monogramm F . II . und die Wertzahl 3 in punktierter ovaler Einfassung, die Rückseite mit ovalem Schild und der Signatur W (Johann Ludwig Wagner, Stempelschneider in Stuttgart 1798-1837). Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Fast Stempelglanz. Erworben im Juni 1990 aus dem Lager der BW-Bank, Stuttgart. (duchy of Württemberg, Frederick II, 1797-1816, three kreuzer of 1800, Stuttgart mint. Obverse with monogram "F . II ." and the value in a oval of pearls; the reverse with oval shield and initial "W" for Johann Ludwig Wagner, engraver at Stuttgart 1798-1837. Rare with this quality, about uncirculated.)"

This scarce type was struck 1800 only along with a similar KM 476. One convention thaler was 120 kreuzer. Frederick's support of Napoleon was rewarded with promotion from duke to king in 1806, along with a substantial addition of territory as mediatization swept away the free cities and ecclesiastical states.
