Wurttemberg 1802 3 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 3510 in Künker sale 440 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €280 (about US$385 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH Friedrich II. (I.), 1797-1806-1816. 3 Kreuzer 1802. Mit Monogramm F . II und die Wertzahl 3 in glatten Klammern, die Rückseite mit ovalem Schild. Fast Stempelglanz. Exemplar der Auktion Westfälische Auktionsgesellschaft 52, Dortmund 2010, Nr. 1173. (duchy of Württemberg, Frederick II, 1797-1816, three kreuzer of 1802, Stuttgart mint. Obverse with monogram "F . II" and the value in parentheses; reverse with oval shield, about uncirculated.)"
This scarce type was struck 1801-02. One convention thaler was 120 kreuzer. Frederick's support of Napoleon was rewarded with promotion from duke to king in 1806, along with a substantial addition of territory as mediatization swept away the free cities and ecclesiastical states.
