Wurttemberg 1803-W 3 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 3522 in Künker sale 440 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €80 (about US$110 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH Friedrich II. (I.), 1797-1806-1816. 3 Kreuzer 1803. Stempelschneider Johann Ludwig Wagner. Mit kleinem Monogramm F und der Signatur W . auf der Vorderseite. Winz. Randfehler, vorzüglich. Privat erworben. (duchy of Württemberg, Frederick II, 1797-1816, three kreuzer of 1803. extremely fine. Obverse with small monogram and initial "W". Minor edge defect, extremely fine.)"
This scarce type was struck 1803 only. One convention thaler was 120 kreuzer. Frederick's support of Napoleon was rewarded with promotion from duke to king in 1806, along with a substantial addition of territory as mediatization swept away the free cities and ecclesiastical states. Three kreuzer were also truck in 1803 without the initial "W" (KM 483).
Recorded mintage: 672,638.
Specification: 1.35 g, 0.333 fine silver, this specimen 1,33 g.
