Wurttemberg 1803-W 6 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 3520 in Künker sale 440 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €1,800 (about US$2,476 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH Friedrich II. (I.), 1797-1806-1816. 6 Kreuzer 1803. Stempelschneider Johann Ludwig Wagner. Mit SCHEIDE MÜNZE und spiegelverkehrtem Z in KREUZER auf der Vorderseite und erhabenem Wappenschild auf der Rückseite. Prachtexemplar. Winz. Schrötlingsfehler, Stempelglanz. Erworben im Februar 1989 aus dem Lager der BW-Bank, Stuttgart. (duchy of Württemberg, Frederick II, 1797-1816, six kreuzer of 1803. Obverse with SCHEIDE MÜNZE and reversed Z in KREUZER and shield on tablet on the reverse. Choice example, minor planchet defect, uncirculated.)"
This scarce type was struck 1803-04. One convention thaler was 120 kreuzer. Frederick's support of Napoleon was rewarded with promotion from duke to king in 1806, along with a substantial addition of territory as mediatization swept away the free cities and ecclesiastical states.
