This specimen was lot 25816 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Felipe IV cob 8 Reales 1651 Madrid A, Calbeto 292, KM-39.4, AU55 NGC. Nice shield and coat of arms with full assayers initial and the last two digits of the date readable. Scarce in this condition." This type was struck at Madrid 1641-59 for Philip IV of Spain while the Segovia mint was producing milled coinage. There is considerable variation from date to date; the mintmark can be M or MD (shown here) and the denomination can be "VIII" (shown here) or "8" (as listed in the SCWC).

Specification: 27.46 g, 0.931 fine silver, .821 troy oz ASW.
