This specimen was lot 1305 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 38 (Winter Park, FL, November 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN, Madrid, cob ½ real, Philip IV, 1651, rare. Bold upper half of cross with full 51 of date to left, full crown and monogram (distinctive style for this mint), attractively toned XF. This mint was barely making coins in this denomination when called upon to counteract the coin shortage caused by the Potosí mint scandal, the connection now becoming important to the greater American collector market." This was the first issue of half reales from the Madrid mint since 1627, according to the SCWC, while Cayón mentions a 1641. Both dates are rare.
