This specimen was lot 35127 in Heritage sale 3094 (Chicago, August 2021), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description[1] noted, "Spain: Philip IV Cob 8 Reales 1651-N MS62 NGC, Granada mint. Small "N" variety. A charming large Cob 8 Reales exhibiting a surprising amount of detail, lending to the easy attribution despite originating from a series plagued by inconsistent strike and environmental issues. Near-Choice Mint State levels of preservation abound, veiled in an airy champagne undercurrent and rarely encountered so fine." This type was struck at Granada 1651 only, with a small 'N' (Cayón-6417), large 'N' (Cayón-6418) and inverted 'N' (Cayón-6419). All are rare. Similar cobs were struck at Burgos (KM 39.1), Cuenca (KM 39.2), Madrid (KM 39.4), Segovia (KM 39.5), Seville (KM 39.6), Toledo (KM 39.7), Valladolid (KM 39.8). While none are common, Seville is the most available.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.

Specification: 27.47 g, 0.931 fine silver.
