This specimen was lot 14 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 35 (Winter Park, FL, May 2024), where it sold for $5,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN, Toledo, gold cob 2 escudos, Philip II, 1590 date to right assayer C below mintmark oT and above denomination II to left, very rare, NGC MS 61, finest and only example in NGC census. Broad flan, rich gold color, with bold full oT-C-II to left and 1590 to right of full but partially double shield, good full cross, desirable as unlisted in Calicó (which does not list this date at all for this mint)." The 1590's were a period of transition at the Spanish mints as milling machinery was introduced. This specimen is of the older cob style. Cayón lists only assayer M for 1590.
