This specimen was lot 11 in Sedwick Auction 36 (Winter Park, FL, November 2024), where it sold for $2,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN, Seville, gold cob 1 escudo, 1590 date to right, assayer B below mintmark S to left, NGC Genuine / clipped. Full and clear date to right of nearly full cross with S above what could be B/C to left (NGC says just B), good full cross, XF or better for actual wear." The 1590's were a period of transition at the Spanish mints as milling machinery was introduced. This specimen is of the older cob style. Cayón lists this date for assayer D only altho Cayón-4070 (undated) and Cayón-4079 (1595) are mentioned with assayer B. Other mints include Toledo, Granada and Valladolid, all rare.
