Sincona sale 6, lot 856

This specimen was lot 856 in Sincona sale 6 (Zürich, May 2012), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$738 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach, Herzogtum Carl Friedrich 1828-1853. Doppeltaler 1840, Berlin. Vorzüglich. (Duchy of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, Charles Frederick, 1828-53, double thaler of 1840, Berlin mint. Extremely fine.)"

This type of 1840-48 has low mintages and is scarcer than the single thaler (Dav-845).

Recorded mintage: 19,000.

Specification: 37.12 g, 0.900 fine silver, 1.074 troy oz ASW; this specimen is 37,09 g.
