Künker sale 263, lot 570

This specimen was lot 570 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €1,900 (about US$2,455 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ANHALT-BERNBURG, HERZOGTUM Alexander Carl, 1834-1863. Vereinsdoppeltaler 1840. Attraktives, vorzügliches Exemplar. (Germany, duchy of Anhalt-Bernburg, Alexander Charles, 1834-63, double union thaler of 1840, attractive extremely fine example.)"

This, the only double thaler from this locale, was struck 1840, 1845 and 1855 but is scarce. Anhalt-Bernburg passed to Anhalt-Dessau after the death of Alexander Carl in 1863.

Recorded mintage: 3,600.

Specification: 37.12 g, 0.900 fine silver.
