Künker sale 353, lot 3477

This specimen was lot 3477 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €240 (about US$334 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 1/2 Reichstaler preuß. 1766, A, Berlin. Berliner Typ. Sehr schön. Erworben im Dezember 1999. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, half thaler of 1766, Berlin mint. Very fine.)"

Half thalers were not a common denomination in Prussia. This type was minted at Berlin, Königsberg, Breslau and Magdeburg 1764-67 and is somewhat available.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a common date.

Specification: 11.13 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen is 11,05 g.
