The first specimen was lot 3771 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €650 (about US$905 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 1/3 Reichstaler preuß. 1759, A, Berlin. Prägung während des Siebenjährigen Krieges. Münzzeichen A zwischen der Jahreszahl in Arabeskenkranz. Winz. Schrötlingsfehler, vorzüglich. Erworben am 19.10.1983. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, one-third thaler of 1759, Berlin mint, struck during the Seven Years War, the mintmark divides the date inside a wreath of arabesques. Minor planchet faults, extremely fine.)"

The second specimen was lot 3772 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,000 (about US$1,392 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 1/3 Reichstaler preuß. 1759, A, Berlin. Prägung während des Siebenjährigen Krieges. Mit glattem Rand. Von großer Seltenheit. Fast vorzüglich. Erworben am 6.6.1988 von Udo Gans, Arnsberg. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, one-third thaler of 1759, Berlin mint, struck during the Seven Years War, wiht plain edge. Extremely rare, about extremely fine.)"

This was the first time this denomination was struck in Prussia since 1741. It was accompanied by a twelve mariengroschen (KM E284) and a six mariengroschen (KM D284). The specification given here is that used for the postwar issue (KM 303); we suspect that it was actually debased.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 8.35 g, 0.666 fine silver, 25 mm diameter, the first specimen 8,01 g; the second specimen is 6,69 g.

Catalog reference: KM 285, the first specimen is Olding 332 b (this example); Kluge 336. The second specimen is Olding 333; Kluge 336.
