Anhalt-Bernburg 1759 1/3 thaler
This specimen was lot 1101 in Sincona sale 73 (Zürich, November 2021), where it sold for 1,300 CHF (about US$1,673 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND | Anhalt-Bernburg, Herzogtum. Victor Friedrich, 1721-1765. 1/3 Taler 1759, Harzgerode. Von grösster Seltenheit. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Kleine Kratzer. (Germany, duchy of Anhalt-Bernburg, Victor Frederick, 1721-65, one-third thaler of 1759, Harzgerode mint. Of the highest rarity, Very fine-extremely fine, Small scratches.)"
This one year type is not listed as particularly rare in the SCWC. It strongly resembles the one-third thaler of Frederick the Great of Prussia. It was accompanied by a one-sixth thaler (KM 46) and 1/24 thaler (KM 48). The next issue of this denomination was in 1799.
