Künker sale 353, lot 3779

This specimen was lot 3779 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €400 (about US$557 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 8 Gute Groschen 1759, F, Magdeburg. Prägung während des Siebenjährigen Krieges. Mit FRDERICVS in der Vorderseitenumschrift. Mit glattem Rand. Von größter Seltenheit. Leicht justiert, fast vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Leipziger Münzhandlung 13, Leipzig 1997, Nr. 1253. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, eight gute groschen of 1759, Magdeburg mint, struck during the Seven Years War, with plain edge. Extremely rare, lightly adjusted, about extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1753-59, 1763. Tall and short busts were struck simultaneously in this period but not normally at the same mint at the same time. This wartime issue is rare.
