Künker sale 353, lot 3770

This specimen was lot 3770 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €130 (about US$181 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. Ku.-Denar 1747 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1746 geändert), W-AHE, Breslau. Prägung für die Provinz Schlesien. Mit "W" (= Wratislawia) zwischen der geteilten Jahreszahl. Münzmeister Adam Heinrich von Ehrenberg. R Kl. Schrötlingsfehler, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Exemplar der Auktion Kölner Münzkabinett 50, Köln 1990, Nr. 127. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, copper dinar of 1747, 1747/6 overdate, Breslau mint, struck for the province of Silesia, Rare, minor planchet flaws, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

After Frederick the Great seized Silesia in 1742, he issued kreuzer denominated coinage for the province which did not directly convert into the thaler-based coinage used in the rest of the realm. One, three, six, 15 and 18 kreuzer were issued along with one and two groschel pieces. This issue of 1746-47 is the only time this denomination was struck after the conquest.
