This specimen was lot 914 in Ponterio sale 164 (New York, January 2012), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Escudos, 1818/7-JJ. Scarce overdate. VERY FINE." This type was struck in Mexico City 1814-21 in the last years of colonial rule. It is considerably scarcer than the preceding imaginary bust type issued 1808-12. This overdate is mentioned in the SCWC but awarded no premium, perhaps because few collect this type by date.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Cayón-16479 (overdate), Fr-52; KM-161.
