The first specimen was lot 31396 in Heritage sale 3041 (Chicago, August 2015), where it sold for $3,290. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferdinand VII gold 4 Escudos 1818 Mo-JJ AU53 NGC, Mexico City mint. A handsome coin, with most attractive orange toning, significant subdued luster and only slight high-point friction evidence. A better date of this scarce type, missing in Gerber and only represented by a VF-Details coin in Eliasberg. Rare and most desirable in this charming quality. From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins." This very scarce type was struck 1814-21 and is usually seen in VF-EF or lower. Jewelry damage is common.
