Aureo sale 261, lot 610

This specimen was lot 610 in Aureo y Calicó sale 261 (Barcelona, July 2014), where it sold for €700 (about US$1,123 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1816. Fernando VII. México. JJ. 4 escudos. Rayas en anverso. (MBC+). (Ferdinand VII, 1808-33, four escudos of 1816, Mexico mint. Obverse scratches, very fine or better.)"

This type, issued 1814-20, is one of the rarest types of nineteenth century Mexico.

Reported Mintage: unknown but rare.

Specification: 13.54 grams, 0.875 fine gold.
