Shown is an 1816MoJJ half real, one of a type struck 1815-21. The "standard bust" shown of Ferdinand VII superseded the "imaginary bust" used 1808-14. Assayer JJ is recorded for the years 1812-21. The first specimen was lot 22779 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it sold for $329. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Real, 1816-JJ. NGC MS-64. Sharply struck with attractive toning featuring electric blue in the peripheries. Great eye appeal." The third specimen was lot 40427 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[2] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Real, 1816-Mo JJ. Mexico City Mint. Ferdinand VII. PCGS Genuine--Chopmark, Unc Details. Partial unidentifiable chopmark. From the John Kraljevich Collection. Ex: Stack's Bowers Galleries (3/2015) Lot # 2631 (part of)."

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 1.69 g, 0.896 fine silver, .048 troy oz ASW.
