Shown is an 1817MoJJ half real, one of a type struck 1815-21. The "standard bust" shown of Ferdinand VII superseded the "imaginary bust" used 1808-14. Assayer JJ is recorded for the years 1812-21. This specimen was lot 22780 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it sold for $763.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Real, 1817-JJ. NGC MS-64. Sharply struck with attractive iridescent toning."
Recorded mintage: unknown but common.
Specification: 1.69 g, 0.896 fine silver, .048 troy oz ASW.
