Stack's Bowers 2026 NYINC sale, lot 49397

This specimen was lot 49397 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. 1/2 Real, 1816-M GJ. Madrid Mint. Ferdinand VII. PCGS MS-62." This type was struck 1815-20, 1824-33 at Madrid and Seville. It is not rare but scarce in nice condition. Spanish silver of the period was 0.812 fine, compared to 0.896 fine at the Latin American mints.
