The first specimen was lot 266 in Aureo y Calicó sale 242 (Barcelona, March 2012), where it sold for 175 € (about US$272 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Fernando VII (1808-1833). 1816. México. JJ. 1 real. Bella. Brillo original. Escasa así. EBC/EBC+. (Ferdinand VII, 1808-33, one real of 1816, Mexico City mint. Very handsome, lustrous, scarce thus, choice extremely fine)."

This is an example of a type struck 1814-21 at Mexico City. It superseded the bust of Carlos IV. Assayer JJ is listed for 1812-21.

Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.

Specification: 3.38 g, .903 silver, .098 troy oz ASW.
