India 1914(b) 1/4 rupee
This specimen was lot 2676 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH INDIA: George V, 1910-1936, AR 1/4 rupee, 1914(b), beautiful rainbow toning, NGC graded MS65, ex The 1914 Collection. Tied for finest graded at both NGC and PCGS." This type was struck 1912-20, 1925-30, 1934 and 1936. The Calcutta mint contributed another 1,423,000. In the 1950's and 1960's both mints restruck coins of the Raj for sale to collectors; many restrikes may be distinguished by rusty dies. Bombay mint quarter rupees have a dot at the bottom of the reverse while the Calcutta quarter rupees have no mark.
Recorded mintage: 7,949,000 plus prooflike restrikes.
